Like with most of the mammals in this menagerie of Gods little experiment called life. We as people have a myriad of ways to make ourselves more attractive to those we wish attract. However, does it really boast confidence or is it just something our partner will begin to question later on after two to three dates?
Let me paint you a picture:
You are on the latest dating app –
You see this grizzly man with a beard. He is smoking hot! You are into him. Additionally, his profile details denote that he would be into you. So, you decide to swipe right or mark their profile that you would like to meet. They do the same.
Now the allure sets in. Your palms begin to sweat, you are instantly infatuated with the idea of this Man among men –
You decide to meet. You flirt a little bit, everything is going well –
Then Date three of four happens. You look across the room at this man with this glorious proportion of hair to face ratio; then you notice something – His eyes look a little too close together, don’t they? His cheekbones are not as defined as you thought they would be.

This is known as Shaveducking. Shaveducking, according to Metro, is the term that describes the lingering unease that emerges when you realize that you’re not quite sure if you’re attracted to a man, or just his facial hair (Shaveducked). Shaveducking can also elude to Men who hide behind their beards to look more desirable to those they want attract (Shaveducking).
“Shaveducking – the lingering unease that emerges when you realize that you’re not quite sure if you’re attracted to a man, or just his facial hair” – Shaveducked
This is common among most new relationships. More importantly, every relationship will go through a doubt phase. This is where your mind will attempt to protect your heart just in case there might be a reason to before you fall for this saucy Minx. However, in case you thought I was just going to patronize your optimistic side, there is an unhealthy level to remark as well.
To avoid being Shaveducked, one must avoid the pitfalls associated with it. It may be as simple as becoming tolerant of a beardless version of our counterpart (just in case), or to completely reevaluate our desires toward this stereotype or type of man. There are a few questions you can ask yourself to avoid being a victim of Shaveducking (A.K.A. Shaveducked).
Having a preference is not a bad thing. However, you should evaluate whether the lack of facial hair latter on would be a deal breaker. In most relationships there are three aspects we consider, thing we like, things we do not like, and things we tolerate. These are rated on a scale of One to Ten with Ten being the most crucial. So, you must analyze, if him having a beard falls in the realm of things you do not like, and it rates high you might want to consider going cold turkey on being into beards. Because, as you may know, yet rarely think, shaving accidents happen, personalities change, or he may grow to not like having a beard. As such exercise discernment and rational when it comes to beard desire.
Are you overly concerned with the idea of him shaving his beard off? Do feel the unnatural urge to join a 12 – step program designed to get you over his loss of beard? Hey, people change, things happen, workplace grooming standards change. With that said, him losing his beard should not be a deal breaker. Moreover, this idea should not fill you with dread. Think about this, do you find yourself being concerned with the idea of what would happen in the bedroom if he shaved? Then you are guilty of Shaveducking him.
