The end of the past year ushers the dawn of a new year and signifies a culmination of the years end. It is a time for hope and a time for reflection.

Reflection is defined as a deliberate and structured thought of the choices we have made. Reflection, is also an integral part toward improving ourselves. As such, through reflection, we can look clearly at our accomplishments and failures and then consider options for change. Reflection allows us to consider what went well. Additionally, as time progresses we start analyze health concerns and being the best us we can be. During this reflection we consider what changes we need to make in our lives and what did not work as intended. Your face is no different and here is why.

Help your body heal itself

The human body is capable of creating a wonderment of oils to regulate a myriad of different things. This is done with sebaceous microscopic exocrine glands in the skin that secrete an oily or waxy matter, called sebum. Sebum helps to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair of mammals and most importantly, humans. The type of secretion of the sebaceous glands is referred to as holocrine (Lampe , et al., 1983). As such, by strengthening and maintaining its lipid barriers it helps to protect the skin and block external influences such as extreme temperatures, over-cleansing, low humidity, and germs. The degradation of Essential fatty acid (EFAs) also known as EFAD significantly affects skin function and appearance. This degradation of these EFAs is the main contribution to a multitude of factors, from how often you become ill to beard dandruff also known as (AKA) beardruff. Even more shocking is that essential fatty acids (EFAs), cannot be synthesized in our bodies and must therefore be obtained from our diet. As such, by adding seed oils to your daily regiment it will accelerate the body’s natural healing and repairing process.

Help yourself live longer and look younger

Your body is losing water as a result of aging, genetics, Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR), and omega-3 deficiency. This causes it to dry out which is characterized by morphological (shape) and histological (tissue) changes to the skin, including deep wrinkling, loss of elasticity, altered pigmentation, and collagen destruction. However, do not get down on yourself yet. Most beard oils these day are rich in this stuff. They have done the extensive research and brought you products that not only help your skin and your beard but also these Omega-3 rich oils help you thwart the risk of a multitude of illnesses.

For example:

  • Inflammation (sometimes severe)
  • Higher risk for heart disease and high cholesterol
  • Digestive disorders
  • Allergies
  • Arthritis
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Mental disorders like depression
  • Poor brain development
  • Cognitive decline

More seed oils equals less oily skin

Giving your face a daily dose of seed oils will actually make your face less oily. When your body does not get what it needs from the environment and through ingestion it will try to accommodate this deficiency by creating more sebum. However, this is not a good thing as your body does not know how to maintain this balance. According to Chris Sherwood of liuvestrong.com, “The hair follicles of your face are constantly shedding (sloughing) dead skin cells. As these follicles shed, they can combine with sebum in the follicles to create a small plug known as a comedone (whiteheads and blackheads).” Therefore, using pant or seed oils will assist in the restoration of the body’s natural balance and assist in the expulsion of dirt and grime, thus reducing acne problems associated clogged pores, and leaving your face looking healthy, not oily.

Ultimately, there are a lot more benefits to using oils and ingesting foods and supplements rich in collagen, Omega-6, and Omega-3 far outweighs the risk of not using it. So do your skin and your beard a favor and help it be the best beard it can be.
