Hello and a good day to you all, as we welcome you to today's beard update right here on The Beard Struggle blog.

As winter begins to take hold we wanted to touch upon one subject that seems to arise a little more around this time of year, the itchy beard phase.

So, let us kick start the engine and rev our way through today's beard related topic at hand, smartly titled - How You Can Cope With An Itchy Beard This Winter...

FIRST THINGS FIRST, WHAT CAUSES THE ITCHING, TO BEGIN WITH?

Having an itchier than usual beard around this time of year is pretty common. As the cold snap arrives, our skin tends to suffer from the low temperatures it delivers.

The key is to try and better your skin to hopefully eliminate these issues from ever happening in the very first place, but in order to do that we first must find out what causes this. The most common cause could be not washing your face fur well enough, as this could help dead skin cells build beneath the surface of your facial hair, and often leads to dry, flaky skin, better known as dandruff, (beard-druff, as we lie to refer to it too!)

But tackling this can prove tricky, and the bigger the beard can mean the bigger the itch. So, let's investigate a little further...

SECOND THINGS, WELL, SECOND, WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP IT?

To stop your face from itching, you have to take jolly good care of your skin, and choosing a gentle wash and conditioner will help, as anything too harsh, like your standard over the counter shampoos will only higher your chances of skin irritation.

Better still invest a few coins in beard washes and conditioners, as these products were designed with your facial hair in mind, and will prove beneficial to your skin hiding below the beard.

Keeping your face fur fresh and tidy during the cold months will ease the itching, it's a sure fire way to help things along, tried and tested by myself too.

BEARD OILS, BALMS AND BUTTERS CAN HELP SOOTH THE ITCH!

The answer to many beard related issues is a good balance beard oil, balm or even a butter. There are of course a whole host of products to choose from, so choose wisely, young Jedi.

My only advice here is not to scrimp on the cost of your beard care range, as usually, you do get exactly what you pay for, so if something seems a little too good to be true, the chances are they very well may be.

Beard oils soothe dry irritated skin and nourish your facial hair into a healthy state to continue growing along nicely. In the winter months, you may find you might need to add a little more than you usually would, as the cold conditions can quickly dry things out in comparison to more balanced weather conditions.

It's about balance and figuring out what works best for you and your beards style.

NOW YOU'VE FIGURED A BALANCED ROUTINE, STICK TO IT!

As I just mentioned above, it is all about finding what grooming routine works out best for you and your facial hair style, then sticking to that routine to get the most optimal results and far less irritation moving on forward.

More often than not when I hear complaints about wild out of control beards, or extra dry, flaky skin and irritable hair growth the individual raising concerns had either slowed or completely gave up using oils and balms on the misguided belief that these products simply are not needed.

Take this from me, if you opt out of basic beard care, you'll be left with a whole host of problematic issues to contend with. From dry flaky skin to brittle breaking hairs and split ends within your beard, not to mention its appearance. SO be wise and find a product you love and gift your face forest the gentlemen look it deserves.
