So lately here at The Beard Struggle, we have been consistently asked how our consumers can defeat the war on Patchy Beard. First off, beards come with age. No amount of products or serums will fix that. That is why beards denote a distinguished man. With age comes wisdom and understanding. However, that is not the only factor. There are so many things in life that can affect your beard growth. From getting adequate sleep to a proper diet and exercise, you can significantly increase your ability to grow a fuller beard by following these 7 steps.
Give your beard the gift of time. You know what they say, time heals all wounds. The same can be said for your beard. However, if after some significant time invested you cannot get the patches to go away read into the rest of this article to gain more insight as to why it might not be happening for you.
STOP STRESSING! Your body cannot take it. Did you know stress can kill you? Well, if not now you do. However, stress can stop or decrease beard growth. Here is why, when you’re under stress, your body increases its production of cortisol, which is a natural hormone associated with the “fight or flight” syndrome. In turn, cortisol decreases the level of testosterone in the body. No testosterone -> No dihydrotestosterone or DHT -> No Beard. Seems simple enough. So, stop stressing.
"Testosterone + enzyme 5α-reductase = dihydrotestosterone or DHT
DHT/0 = 0/Beard"
NO REST = NO TESTOSTERONE!. The less sleep you get, the less testosterone your body produces. And with the formula above you can see that. So give your body and your beard a rest and get adequate sleep.
Working out increases testosterone levels and testosterone is a key trigger for facial hair growth. Why? because, testosterone converts into something called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – a sex hormone that is a key contributor to hair growth, fertility, muscle gain, and so much more. As such, men with higher levels of DHT and testosterone usually have more facial hair than men who have lower levels. Additionally, exercising boosts your metabolism, which can aid hair growth while aiding your overall health. As such, working out, mixed with a good nutritious diet will maximize your beard potential (See “Diet” below).
I cannot stress this enough, TAKE CARE OF YOUR BEARD! Provide your beard the oils and nutrients that it needs to be the best beard it can be. Most men take supplements before and after going to the gym. Why, because they have figured out that their bodies need fuel to burn or it will break down. As such, applying a beard oil AND balm not OR will keep it hydrated, soft, and healthy. Then Wash that mangy mane you call a beard. Dirt damages hair; period! However, DO NOT use your hair shampoo. That is destroying your beard. It is too harsh and damages the strands.
A proper diet benefit so many things for the human body. Adversely, not in-taking a proper diets can negatively affect the body in so many ways. A good diet will provide your body the proper nutrients it needs to do what it was designed to do; Work! You have heard the phrase, you put good in, you get good out. Well there is a reason they said it. To maximize your beard growing potential here is a list vitamins and nutrients your body needs to grow a better beard. YOUR BODY NEEDS Protein, Vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E, Biotin, Beta A Carotene, Omega-3 Fatty Acids, and lots of water.
I hate to say it. However, a patchy beard may be something more serious. You may be suffering from a hormone imbalance or hormone resistance. You should do the thing that your wife has been nagging you about; schedule a doctors appointment. ONLY A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL CAN TELL YOU IF YOU ARE SUFFERING FROM ANY AILMENTS. Who knows, it could be something as simple as low testosterone or Low-T and a daily injection will make you right as rain.
