HOW BEST TO SURVIVE WITH A BEARD DURING A HEATWAVE

Good day fellow blog readers, and welcome back to the TBS beard blog. As my Monday morning started much like any other Monday morning usually does, full of deep regret with how fast my weekend had passed me by in what feels like a blink of an eye, and back to the grind until the next one arrives. But I soon noticed something was a little different. It was only 7:30 AM yet the heat was already unbearable!

Here in England we are currently experiencing a sudden heat wave, with temperatures soaring between a staggering 27-29 degrees, I woke up feeling like an overcooked roast chicken, it felt as though I was sleeping on a bed of hot molten lava.

Being a light skinned 'ginge' I always try my very best to avoid such temperatures at all costs, and in all honesty if I had a fridge freezer that was big enough to fit my backside in I would probably move in until this all passed over already. At family barbecues you'll usually find me crying in the shadows under a tree in a desperate attempt to not burn to a crisp in the dying summer sun.

So, with that being said I thought it would be rather fitting on how's best to guide my fellow beardsmen with a helping hand on how to survive such soaring temperatures, especially when bearded! So let's begin today's blog, smartly titled - How Best To Survive With A Beard During A Heatwave...

FIRSTLY, YOU MUST STAY WELL HYDRATED!

First things first, it is really important to keep yourself well hydrated. And the simplest way to do so is to drink fluids, and plenty of them. By fluids I'm not suggesting an ice cold beer (despite how appetising that sounds!), as most alcoholics drinks actually won't help you any if at all, and can actually make matters worse, making you more thirsty with little to no hydration provided.

The easiest fuel for your body would be to choose water, but if water isn't your thing choose something with low sugar. This'll stop your dry mouth and will keep everything nice and in good balance too. Staying hydrated will work wonders for your wellbeing in such heat, and can also help you feel a touch cooler if the right liquids are consumed. Sweating is designed to actually cool you down, and drinking plenty of fluids will actively encourage this.

SHADOWS AND SHADED AREAS ARE YOUR FRIEND!

Whilst it is nice to pause and appreciate the great weather, it's important to stay safe in the sun as well. Of course sunblock lotions are the responsable answer to protecting yourself it the the summer sun, but you should also take small breaks to help keep cool and lower your risk of sun stroke and/or sunburn.

As jokingly mentioned above, I hang out in the shadow shaded areas at barbeques and gatherings, the main reason being I don't tan, not in the slightest, and nor do I enjoy the sun, so I choose to keep out of it the most I possibly can.

If you're like me, or just need to take 5 minutes break find your nearest shaded spot and chill for a short time. This will quickly lower your body heat and in turn will slow the chances of burning yourself out to such high temperatures.

Besides, kicking about in the scorching heat does your face fuzz no favours, and can dry out your frizz super fast. So, keep that in mind when you're out in the sun having all the fun.

A SPLASH OF BEARD OIL WILL HELP STOP THINGS FROM DRYING OUT!

One equally important trick in the book is to take a little extra TLC when it comes to caring for your face forest. And doing so is a rather easy enough task, and can be achieved with a little extra beard oil or balm before you start your day ahead.

Keeping your face whiskers well oiled will slow down the drying out process caused by higher than usual levels of humidity and over exposure to the sun UV heat. So keep this in mind when you're enjoying the sunshine throughout the day.

It would also be a smart idea to carry either a balm, butter or oil on your person during the day, then should further application be needed you'll be packing the right goods for the job at hand. Trust me, getting caught short in more ways than one is really no fun.

TIME TO DON THE FLAT PEAK CAP AND SUNGLASSES!

It's also a smart move to take care of your wellbeing in the sun by choosing to wear some form of headwear, be it a fitted cap, bandana or something similarly as useful. Please note that over exposure to high UV rays naturally produced by the sun can lead to possibly permanent retinal damage, so think smart and look at your vision at all times by wearing eye protection in the form of a pair of snazzy shades.
