If there is one thing I've always strongly admired about the bearded community, it's their compassion and good will to change things for the better. You don't have to search far to see the good in a bearded man, as more often than not you'll read of some of the charitable causes many bearded communities involve themselves with from city to city. Just hit Google search and you'll be amazed at what has been achieved.
And today is no different, as one of our own 'The Beard Struggle' Brand Viking's named Yutaka Tamanaha has teamed up with his good friends at his local brewery, Exit 6 to support a cause known as 'Adopt A Family For Exit 6'.
This annual cause was first created to help families in need enjoy the holiday festivities they rightfully deserve. Exit 6 brewery, owned by Jeff Britton (The famous $6 Starbucks check writer you might have spotted in the news!) is situated in Cottleville, Missouri, have formed and hosted the 'Adopt A Family' campaign for three consecutive years, and the support shown by the community, customers and themselves have made a huge impact to the adopted families supported by the cause. Every penny raised goes toward buying the selected families needed items from a wish-list. Once those have been met the money further helps toward extras such as helping with the families christmas groceries and utility bills over the seasonal winter holidays.
Exit 6 have set a target on the bar to reach $3,000 in donations, which in past years has been gratefully received. Our ambassador, Yutaka has created a GoFundMe page and has further raised the bar (no pun intended!) by setting himself a personal goal of a further $3,000 to contribute to the cause. 'But by doing what?' you must wonder. By courageously placing his very own marvel of a beard directly on the line!
The usual method of protocol would be for those who are bravely participating in raising funds for the cause would sacrifice the hair on their heads, or even worse, their magical beards! This year things have been switched up a little, and Yutaka is asking for your kind donations to help SAVE his beard. Yes, you read right. If he meets his set target of $3,000 his beard will grow to see another day. But if he falls short, it'll end with only one outcome, and I've gotta be honest, it isn't pretty (I'll let you fill in the gaps, as I wipe away a worried tear!) If the set target reaches $1,500 Yutaka has agreed to shave the hair on his head. If he meets the full $3,000 target his beard is safe, it is as simple as that!
Speaking with Yutaka he openly voiced his support for a truly inspiring cause - ''For me personally, I'm honoured to participate this year because I'm all about helping others. I'd hate to see the beard go, if I don't make my goal. But seeing the smile on those families faces will outweigh any remorse'' He further explained ''Each year, I've donated. This year is no different. I've matched some of my donations from The Beard Struggle.''
So today, we reach out to you, our loyal (and often hairy for all the right reasons!) readers and ask you to take a few moments to click on the following link which will direct you to the GoFundMe page and help save our fellow Brother, Yutaka's beard. Not only that, but every penny you pledge will make a huge difference in someones life this christmas. No donation is ever considered too small and will go directly into making another family who may be less fortunate than anothers Christmas one to remember. As without your generosity and good will, such causes would simply not exist.
To find Yutaka and watch his story as it unfolds you'll discover him (and his marvelous beard!) on Instagram at @ohsukah.
