Happy Thursday everybody! The weekend is almost in our grasp, as we approach our tenth day of this years 'No Shave November'. We sure hope that your beard game is still growing longer and stronger by the day.
It seems that the internet trolls have been hard at it again, this time bringing bearded men to the forefront of a rather impressive internet hoax, and just in time for 'No Shave November'.
It all started out with a simple tweet shared on social media platform Twitter, by what we can only assume was someday hoping to prank a few friends as well as a few fellow Tweeters, clearly not expecting this to become a trending topic on twitter in the process.
The tweet displayed what was a well made poster, which has since has been confirmed to be fake by fast food chain McDonald's, promotional poster which simply read 'FREE ICE CREAM FOR PEOPLE WITH BEARD ON 9 NOVEMBER 2017.'
Whilst it remains unclear who originally made this poster, and who was the first to share the fake promotional image, it soon began circulating around on social media, causing quite the frenzy of questions from many social media users.
With many believing this promotion image to be true, some even escalated the story, adding more fiction to the story, suggesting it was a promotional push from the giant fast food chain as a goodwill gesture for participants of 'No Shave November' this year.
Whilst McDonald's themselves didn't offer any form of an official response to the many who were asking the legitimacy of the promo poster, the McDonald's customer care line have since confirmed that it was indeed an internet hoax, which suggests that its customers should dismiss this as nothing more that a light hearted prank pulled on the internet.
After discovering the prank was indeed false, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that it wasn't true, but instead was nothing more than a smart arse internet prank. But on that same note, could you imagine the mess and chaos we would make? Free ice cream! And facial hair? What a sticky combination that is!
I can only applaud the fact that one man, or woman, managed to fool hundreds if not thousands on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram users. I wonder if this will open the floodgates to similar prank ideas happening in the not so distant future? Hmmmm, I guess only time will tell.
So, if you spot this story circulating around you social media timelines, you'll know better than to go and try and pull a free ice cream from Ronald McDonald, but instead remember the sentence that reads 'If something seems too good to be true, then it usually is.'
Did you happen to see and maybe fall for this internet prank? Or have you had similar pranks pulled on you in the past? Then let us hear your stories in the comments box you'll find provided below.
And until next time, Beard on Brothers, Beard on...
