CAN RAIN WATER ACTUALLY DAMAGE YOUR BEARD?

Here at 'The Beard Struggle' we are constantly searching for new yet practical ways to protect your facial hair from the weather elements, such as the sunshine, and high and low humidity levels. Today I wanted to discuss what happens to your face fuzz in the rain, and furthermore if the rain water could actually be harming your beard in all its glory.

First of all, rain is just water, right? what really, if anything can it possibly do to harm your face fur? In all honesty the answer is not all that much.

Rainwater is a very soft water, unlike the stuff we get from our taps, dependent on which area you live in your running water may differ ever so slightly in softness/hardness. Rain has no minerals dissolved inside of it and has a neutral pH substance level.

Water that is soft can make your facial hair appear greasy to the touch and weigh it down as well. It can also prematurely wash away any product you may have used that day, such as beard oils and balms (view all products), making your face fur appear fuzzy and out of control. A rather unsightly view I'm sure you'd agree.

Facial hair can also become weaker with over exposure to any water, as once damp it can become tangled and knotted much easier, which may cause snagging and pulling when touching and combing.

But what can be done to protect against the rainwater messing up our marvelous furry man manes? The obvious pointer is to keep out of the rain as much as possible. I know some of you may work outdoors in all weathers, come rain or shine, so this might prove a tricky task, in which case I would suggest wrapping up the best you can with either rain jackets or a face warmer / scarf.

Do not overly concern yourself with walking in the rain every now and then, as short term exposure will not harm you any, it' more so if it becomes a regular occurrence that may cause the odd problem every now and again.

It's always handy to carry whatever product you are using on your person when you go about your day to day commutes. The reason being if good old mother nature crops up to bite you on the ass you'll have what you need to shape up that beard in no time. I usually carry both my 'TBS' balm and a V Comb with me on my travels at the absolute minimum. I suggest you try and get into a similar habit of doing something like this yourself.
