Author: The Beard Struggle

Facial hair has been around from the moment man first walked our planet. Throughout history we have seen beards continuously evolve and change upon gentlemens faces, from high ranking royals to powerful greek gods, they have been a symbol or power and riches as beards have and will continue to stand the test of time.
As mammals we tend to be very hairy, although not quite as hairy as our primate cousins (although I'm not far off!) In fact in comparison to gorillas and chimps we may be considered rather naked. Although we all have facial hair, even the ladies, but thankfully not much (minus the unlucky few), as men usually produce thicker, fuller and darker hairs that become rather snazzy looking beards in left to grow out long enough. This happens because our facial follicles respond aggressively to our bodies testosterone levels. Facial hair isn't exclusively set aside for only us humans either, as many primates flourish out an impressive amount of face gruff to help attract any possible partners for mating opportunities.
It is believed that we continued to carry this exact evolutionary trait over from our primitive relations in order to attract the attention from the opposite sex, helping us stand out from our pears when searching for a mate if you catch ones drift (*wink wink*). Now that times have changed and we live a modern life along side social media and super advanced technology the original purpose of sporting a beard may have diminished ever so slightly, although not completely. As more men each day choose to put down that dreaded razor once and for all and opt in for the bearded life. And although some men choose to grow their face fluff for female approval not all of us do like our previous ancestors might have before. Instead first and foremost we choose to flourish our face forests for me, myself and I. And LONG LIVE THE BEARD say us!
