A SHORT LIST OF THOSE WHO FEAR OUR BEARDS

Hi there, and welcome back to the TBS beard blog, possibly the most informal beard blog you'll find on the interwebs, as we continue to gift you sound beard growing tips, tricks, and advice, whilst adding some lighthearted humour posts in the mixer for good measure.

Today's blog is, of course, no different, as we discuss - A Short List Of Those Who Fear Our Beards...

SOME CHILDREN FEAR THE BEARD!

It is true, some kids just don't like facial hair, and the bigger the beard the more they cry it seems.

When I first began growing my beard, my friend's children would often be brought to tears when I spoke with them, simply because they weren't used to seeing a 'beardy man' in the flesh.

I recall the first time I met one of my good friend's newborn son, I held him for the first time when he was nearly 3 months of age, within seconds of spotting my big ol' ginger face he screamed out at the top of his lungs until Mommy saved him from the fuzzy-faced scary man.

It seems the younger the child the scarier the fuzzy face becomes. Of course, in time they warm to the beard, but those first impressions never seem to go so well. Well, at least from experience anyway.

DOGS OFTEN DISSAPORVE OF THE FACE FUZZ!

Another rather strange one I've met with are dogs who decide to snarl and bark at me as I walk past them be it in the park, or by their backyard.

Granted, dogs like to bark, I get it, but some dogs really get pissy when it comes to beards. There is a Jack Russell cross I see most mornings on the school run with my children, and that little bastard hates me, and his owner seems to think it's the beard as he's 'otherwise a really good boy' so I'm told.

He isn't the only pooch that gives me the eye either, in fact, my Brothers dog seems to do the exact same, heck that little puppy even tried to bite at my beard the first time I met her. True story, Bro.

CATS ARE A LITTLE UNSURE TOO, SO IT SEEMS!

It also seems that cats are equally as unsure about a man with a beard as well.

That disapproving eye they give you when they meet a bearded fellow for possibly the first time is rather alarming.

They do say that cats are always plotting to kill, and I don't like the idea of being on the receiving end of it.

Now, of course not all pussycats are the same, and some have been known to snuggle in and do that cute paw claw thing they do when they are young, but to our beards, but in truth, that can't be too good for your facial hair, as claws are sharp, and that's gotta hurt, am I right?

MOTHERS AND GRANDPARENTS WILL OFTEN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT THEY THINK AS WELL!

And last but not least if you have a disapproving family member, usually your Mother or your Grandmother they are almost guaranteed to speak out on their disapproval of your new furry face whenever they see you.

I often find myself wondering what my Grandparents would've thought of my beard, I believe I was one of the first O'Reilly in my family line to actually sport facial hair. I think my Nan would've approved, but not my Grandad. He was a very strict Irishman, and it was him who actually learned me to shave in the first place.

So, if you have a family member or friend who doesn't dig the beard, be ready for some negative comments coming your way, as they rarely hold back or bite their tongue.
