4 THINGS NOBODY TELLS YOU ABOUT GROWING A BEARD

Here at 'The Beard Struggle' we admire beards of every shape, shade, size and style. There are however a few things that do make our bearding lives a little tricky, and today we wanted to discuss those in a little closer detail. So we're here to talk about 4 Things Nobody Tells You About Growing A Beard...

BEARD HAIRS WILL BE FOUND EVERYWHERE!

Once your beard reaches a reasonable length you may begin to notice the odd hair here and there about the house. When you beard reaches an epic length you'll find that those once tiny hairs you spotted every now and again have now become much more frequent, as you'll start finding those long wiry looking facial hairs pretty much everywhere! Just sat here writing this blog I can look down onto my keyboard and instantly spot a red curly hair or two staring right back up at me. My wife often asks if I'm actually moulting as these things appear absolutely everywhere around our home. And if you and your beard are anything like me you will have probably had your fair share of beard hairs popping up about the place when you least expect it.

TRIMMING THE BEARD BECOMES A RATHER SCARY THOUGHT!

I've touched upon beard trimming before in previous beard blogs, but the closer you and your glorious beard become, the tougher the task of trimming the beard becomes. I kid you not, the very thought of even a light cut makes me feel slightly uneasy. This is due to me having a D.I.Y trimming disaster a few years ago which left me with very little choice other than to shave my beard off completely and start over. (The emotional scars are still not healed!) Ever since then when I know I'm in need of a tidy up I still refer back to that time and panic myself silly. I have since given up with any major 'do it yourself' style of trimming and now leave it to my trusty beard barber. If you're anything like me, you might be better off doing the same. Because after all, trimming mistakes happen a whole lot faster than growing out a beard does!

YOU'LL ITCH LIKE YOU'VE NEVER ITCHED BEFORE!

Every bearded gentleman can relate to just how itchy your face becomes when you first start out growing a beard. Smartly titled the 'Beard-itch' phase, it often sees many stubbly faced hopefuls fall and crumble as they reach for the razor to hack away at their progressing stubble. It's a tough stage to grow though and many do often fall. But despite how dreadful that itch can become thankfully it is a very short lived stage too. Given a little more time that itch will stop and you'll soon forget what all the fuss was about. So hang in there mister itchy face! There is a light at the end of that very irritating tunnel!

THE LONGER THAT BEARD BECOMES, THE TRICKER IT IS TO CONTROL!

When you begin growing out your beard you'll likely have a rough mental image as to what your beard will look like. You'll also have a style in mind that you're aiming towards. My plan has remained a rather simple one, to allow my beard to become the biggest beard it can possibly be whilst maintaining a little shape and order along the way. But it's a sad tale that when your beard begins to reach it's peak as you'll soon notice it can become a much trickier task to control that once tamed beard. If you keep a shorter beard style things are often much more manageable, but with a little extra TLC your beard can be trained into behaving itself again. It just takes a tad more time and patience to do so.
