4 RATHER EXCELLENT BEARD FACTS THAT YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW

Being the chief beard blogger here at 'The Beard Struggle' I get to spend many hours each and every day browsing the world-wide web seeking out all things 'beard.' During these extensive searches I often discover some rather fascinating facts in regards to our furry faces.

So many of them tick all the right boxes so much so that every once in awhile I like to share my findings with you all. And today is no different, as I present to you 4 Rather Excellent Beard Facts You Probably Didn't know...

THE VICTORIANS RATHER ADMIRED A MAN WITH A BEARD!

In Victorian times beards were highly respected. In fact having facial hair was so important to them that many men were compelled to purchase false facial hair, in particular moustaches that were disguised to look as ''natural'' as possible. The Armed forces even went to the extreme of handing out false mustaches that were handmade made from goats hair to new recruits who couldn't muster up facial hair on their own.

BEFORE MEN LEARNED TO SHAVE AT HOME, THE BARBER WAS THE ONLY OPTION!

Believe it or not, but the comfort of home grooming hasn't always been so readily available. For hundreds of years men had to visit a barber to have their facial hair taken care of. As a result, many barbershops became a social gathering area for gents. In tudor times some barbershops even went as far as keeping musical instruments, so that people could meet and mingle whilst enjoying a little music when waiting to sit on the barber's chair.

YOUR BEARD HELPS PROTECT YOU FROM HARMFUL SUN UV RAYS!

I've mentioned this little known fact in previous blog posts, but beards do in fact help protect your skin from potentially harmful sun rays, with a protection of around factor 21. Pretty impressive, don't you think?

On the flipside beards also act as a form of insulation during the cold winter months, helping lock in your naturally produced face heat that you produce. Afterall, who needs a scarf, when you can grow your very own?

NEWS JUST IN! NOT EVERYBODY LOVES YOUR BEARD!

I hate to break it to you gents, but beards haven't always been as hot as they are now considered to be, and truth be told, not everybody likes them. It's true, apparently beards are feared by some, granted, mainly children. And some women do not understand the fascinating attraction of a furry face, and instead much prefer a naked face over a fuzzy face. blasphemy! The world has gone mad! MAD I TELL YOU!
